Fascias, Soffits and Guttering in Northampton

Your roofline protects the top of your walls and carries rainwater away from the house. We supply and fit new fascias, soffits and guttering across Northampton, and carry out repairs and gutter cleaning.

Your Roofline Explained

The fascia is the long board running along the bottom edge of the roof, and it is what your gutters are fixed to. The soffit sits underneath, closing the gap between the fascia and the wall, and often includes vents that let air into the loft. Together with the guttering and downpipes, they keep rainwater off your walls and away from the foundations.

On many older homes these boards are painted timber, which needs regular repainting and eventually rots. Most replacement fascias and soffits today are uPVC, which gives a low maintenance roofline that never needs painting. We offer a full supply and install service, covering everything from taking down the old boards and gutters to fitting the new ones.

We supply fascias and soffits in many colours and styles, so you can keep a classic white finish or pick a colour that suits your windows and doors. Guttering can be matched to them for a neat, finished look.

Signs Your Fascias, Soffits or Gutters Need Work

Roofline problems are usually easy to spot from the ground. Things to look out for include:

  • peeling paint, or timber that looks soft, split or rotten
  • gutters overflowing in heavy rain or dripping at the joints
  • sagging gutter runs or brackets pulling away from the fascia
  • green or dark streaks on the brickwork below the gutters
  • birds or wasps getting in behind loose soffit boards

Overflowing gutters are often just blocked with leaves and moss, and a clean is all they need, which our gutter repairs and cleaning service covers. If the boards themselves are rotten, full replacement is usually the better choice. New uPVC boards are sometimes fitted over old timber, known as capping, which can look fine at first but leaves the rot in place behind it. Taking the old boards off also means the rafter ends and the bottom row of tiles can be checked.

Roofline Replacements From Roofers Who Know the Whole Roof

Because we are roofers as well as roofline installers, we look at how your fascias, soffits and gutters work with the roof itself, not just how they look. A sagging gutter can point to a problem at the eaves, and we will tell you if we spot anything that needs attention while we are up there.

We replace and repair rooflines on homes across Northampton and its suburbs and nearby villages, including our roofing services in Duston. Terry Jackson wrote in his review: “Thanks to the guys from Weathershield Roofing who came and sorted out a long standing guttering problem which was in a very awkward spot. Friendly and courteous… highly recommended… would definitely use them again.”

Fascias, Soffits & Guttering: Common Questions

Good quality uPVC fascias and soffits commonly last 20 years or more, with very little maintenance beyond an occasional wash. Their lifespan depends on the quality of the boards and how well they were fitted. Painted timber boards need far more upkeep, and they can start to rot once the paint is no longer protecting the wood.

Usually, yes. Gutters are fixed to the fascia boards, so they have to come down when the fascias are replaced, and it is normally sensible to fit new guttering rather than refitting old, brittle runs. Doing everything together means the gutters, fascias and soffits match and the gutters can be set to the right fall.

For most homes, once a year is a good starting point, ideally in late autumn after the leaves have fallen. Houses near trees may need cleaning more often. Signs your gutters need clearing include water spilling over the edge in heavy rain, plants growing in the gutter and damp patches on the wall beneath.

The most common cause is a blockage from leaves, moss or debris, either in the gutter itself or at the top of a downpipe. Overflowing can also happen when a gutter has sagged and lost its fall, or when it is too small for the amount of water coming off the roof. Cleaning solves many cases, while others need the gutter refixed or replaced.

White is a classic choice, but fascias and soffits are available in many colours and styles, including black, grey, brown and woodgrain effects. Many homeowners match them to their windows and doors for a neat finish. Guttering also comes in different colours and profiles, so the whole roofline can be coordinated.
